It seemed to her that months had turned into days and days into hours that only dwindled down to the minutes before her birthday would come and go. Every other birthday was the same, she'd spend it alone, but this birthday wasn't any different. Except for the fact that it'd be the year she'd come into age and would be able to sense her lifemate, or at least feel whether a Carpathian Male or even if a Human Male is her mate.

She never thought about that be a possibility, but it was, her uncle Mikhail's mate was human when they had met. It was because of his strength and position among their people that he was able to fully turn her into a Carpathian Woman. If Genesis's mate ended up being a Human Male, she wouldn't feel any different to if it was a Carpathian Male - because either way, they'd be meant for each other and fate had plans for them.

The living room was cold and empty, the fire place devoid of life for once as she entered through the back door. Her form not quite human as she padded around on paws that were dirty from her run outside. Sometimes, she found it quite nice to just get away, she enjoyed her privacy and sometimes even had the wonderful idea of moving out and away, but this mansion was going to play a big part in helping her find her mate. Glancing at one of the analog clocks on the wall, she determined with her colorless vision that it was nearing three am. The course dark fur along her body was clean, yet held a rough look to it considering it went through a rain storm that had occurred and hour or so ago.

She'd be lying if she didn't say she was disappointed, that her 18th birthday was three weeks ago, and she still didn't find him. Genesis continuously reminded herself that some Carpathian's waited centuries, hell, milleniums, just to find their mate. So she'd just have to sit back in be patient, the young woman had never felt so anxious in her life. Usually her inner self was more composed than this. As she thought her paws carried her into the kitchen where the lie was still off and no one seemed to be there, it felt nice to be alone as she made the transformation from wolf to woman. One moment she had been a rather large brown wolf, and the next, she was a barefooted young woman moving around in the dark kitchen preparing herself something to eat. Not needing the light that the ceiling provided.

Vitalis: Another morning like any other, that's what I always had to remind myself. I was still in control, and that meant another day I wouldn't go about killing. Slaughtering others the way that I had been warned of by my father, the way that all Carpathians fear. It was the same. I woke, I laid about in bed for an hour or so contemplating on whether I should get up, and then I begrudgingly rose to meet the day. One more blessed day, even though it was also bittersweet. Each day down and that means I grow closer to falling victim to my own darkness.

The shower was hot, purposefully scalding to remind myself that I feel. There's no work today, I can't work with kids anymore without feeling guilty. This aching guilt that I've seen dozens of them grow and die off, as quickly as they come. The shower was meant to provide relief, but it doesn't. It simply makes me even more tired, and maybe that's pain from uncertainty of maybe just tiredness from the late night before. I can't tell, but I know I shouldn't live like this. Petre and Yuri don't talk to me anymore, I think they worry they may have to make a choice. I think they view me as some silly American now, but I remember my roots. I leave the shower and dress, I need to get out of my room and do something with my life while I still have one. It's easy, I just throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt from the dojo, and I'm off. Perhaps I should go into town, check on the kids and be responsible, but I can't. I don't have the energy. Maybe that's my fault, I haven't eaten lately. Sure, pizza and sandwiches, but I mean actually eaten. I have fed in a week or two, things blur now.

My travel downstairs is slow, a bit of a lazy trot really, and then a soft coast towards the kitchen. Generally I don't like to feed when somebody can see me, but I can't really fight it right now. I round the corner and reach for the light switch before I feel somebody else's presence. Obviously they would've turned on the light if they wanted it, and so I didn't bother. I eased towards the fridge, stopping on my way to grab a mug from the cabinet. Once I opened the door to the fridge, letting the light out, I cast a glance towards the other figure with a slight curiosity. Female, obviously. A slender figure almost always means female, and I can smell the carpathian running through her veins. It's not Rachel though, and that has me a little caught off guard. I hadn't known of another carpathian female around here. I grabbed the bag of blood from the fridge and shut the door, cutting off all the light that had illuminated my view. Surely it wasn't polite, but I felt a certain curiosity towards her. Who was this woman with carpathian heritage? I backed against the counter and looked in her direction, trying to make out the dark figure as I opened the bag from the top to pour into my mug.
