That was it. This was the worst possibly scenario. For the first time she could remember Jeremy yelled at her. It wasn't only that he yelled but that it was past-tense. Jenna didn't know what she had hoped to accomplish by coming back but it wasn't this. And for a moment she just sat there stunned, unsure what to say. Had she really hurt him that bad? She must have for him to act like this. It was all her fault. She couldn't blame him. She actually loved him still, no matter how much she wanted to deny it, and there was no way she could pin the blame on anyone else.

"Jeremy... I'm sorry." It was no use saying sorry now. It was too late. "Maybe it was a mistake." Maybe sleeping with Pat and Jason and Jeremy had all been a mistake. Maybe coming here had been a mistake. Maybe pushing Tanya away had been a mistake. "Maybe I've fucked up one too many times. And maybe you're done with me... But I came back because I cared about you. I came back because I thought about you more than I wanted to and regretted my decision to leave all the time. And I'm glad that you have a new girlfriend and all now but I still love you." And that was Jenna's 'I'm going to regret this later' statement of the night. And saying it ripped her heart out. Everything she'd wanted to pretend wasn't true about herself she had admitted and all in the hopes of winning back one guy who seemed to hate everything about her now.

She let out a breath and her shoulders hunched over. She wasn't sure whether to follow it up with more but she couldn't think of the words. Nothing could defend her now. She'd exposed her weakness and claimed guilt. It was no use trying to pretend it wasn't her fault or that she didn't care anymore. So instead of doing much talking she kissed his cheeks again whispering a quick, "please don't hate me," before leaning back again and hanging her head.

It wasn't long after sunrise that James woke up. It was normal for him and in fact, he'd slept in a bit. For years he'd been up with the sun every day. Today he needed the extra rest though. And even after he regained consciousness he didn't open his eyes for a good while, electing instead to just enjoy Caius' presence for he knew that once they both were awake this time together would be over and it would be back to work.

He couldn't help the slight smile that crossed his lips as his love brushed hair across his forehead though and so he consented to opening his eyes. What he saw was beautiful. Just above him was Caius, looking down at him. The light from the small window in the wall played through his hair and across his flawless skin amazingly and James couldn't help being stricken by just how beautiful he was. In every way. A happy sigh was the first thing to escape his lips that morning followed by, "Good morning my love."

In this moment together neither were worrying about the rest of the world. It was just the two of them, together on a bed. Alone and happy. Everything about it felt so right for something that should be so wrong.

Funny creatures, humans. Especially those of America. They were always running around like they had something so important to do. None of them realized how pointless their lives really were. Yet everyday they did the same thing for very little gain, always pushing to get ahead in a society where they would have no value after death. And yet everything they did was so fascinating no matter how pointless.

Every single one found love at some point. And what a silly thing love was. There was no way to quite predict love. Yes, one could make a list of characteristics they found attractive but no checklist determined who one fell for. It was far more magical than that. At one point in most every human's life time they met someone with a matching soul. And not only could a soul with with one other but many others. All identical and perfectly complimenting. And yet they knew nothing of this. So happy they were to be humans and to have such silly, pointless little lives.

Yet each was so beautiful. And today he was assigned to protect one of the most beautiful of them all. A girl was to become a prophet today. Before this moment she had never realized her powers and she wouldn't for sometime yet she needed a protector no less. And it was quite an honor for the angel to receive this assignment.

No longer would he collect the souls of the recently dead for heaven. He was the angel of suicide victims. Or had been anyways. His job had been to go to those who had recently killed themselves and guide them safely to heaven. It was far too easy for those souls to get lead astray by demons and never make it to their rightful place. However meaningful a job, he was glad to be rid of it. For now, he had found his own purpose in this world. And it was to protect the girl who may one day save humanity.
