The edge of the cliff wasn't getting any closer very quickly. Did this mean I had slowed down? It didn't feel like it. Was it possible I was still going the same speed, but the world had slowed down around me?

The time stop wasn't as effective as I would have liked it to be. On top of the strain of carrying the spirit, I was also distracted by my feelings. They weren't particularly special, or anything, it was just... feelings. I hadn't has some in so long. And now I found that I actually cared about what happened to this girl? Enough to saver her life? I must be getting old.

I slid in slow motion up to the edge. This is it, I thought. No weird time-slow/stop thing will save me. I'm going down. But then I bumped up against the leg of the dark man.

I nearly fell of the glacier. Never, not in 400 years of being Death, had a human touched me. Who did this girl think she was? First she made me feel emotions, now actual, physical sensations? There was a simple explanation: she wasn't human.
