"Mhmm." I nodded a little but frowned. Did she have to get away because of Jeremy? Why? What was wrong with Jeremy? I wanted to ask, but I knew I shouldn't, so I decided to ask some different questions. "So where've you been? I mean, you certainly didn't just disappear into town-" Because we had searched there a couple times, during the night when the kids were asleep. "So where did you go?"

When I wake, I have forgotten. My eyes zoom wide and I scramble up onto me feet. I hold onto my aching arm and I rest against the large dumpster, catching my breath as it all flows back, the dreadful memories – stabbing the vampire, running from the hospital and unable to go home. I hold my stomach now as I feel its pain, though it’s not of hunger which is strange – it’s an empty rumble.

My eyes grab hold of the glisten at the end of the alleyway at steps out onto the pavement. I walk over and pick the change up from the floor, knowing my mission, as for that earlier morning I would scout the streets for some more money to fill my pockets. I was vigilant and cautious, aware people may know my face already. Lucky for me, the town is sparse and outside an old nightclub the floor is littered with a collection of pennies. I have enough now – I can make the call.

I would have phoned my family, though that’s the obvious choice – they’ve probably hacked the line in case I take the risk: The whole police department stood around in headphones in my sitting room, waiting for my call. I have to choose wisely, as now I’m stood in the phone box, dropping my coins into the machine, more people appearing outside the plastic glass as the morning rolls on. I phone the only voice of sanity I know now.

“Hello?”

“Frank… It’s me.”

“Eric!... Eric, what are you doing? Where are you?”

“Hiding. I’m hiding. Listen, I can’t tell you in case ‘they’re’ listening, but you have to help me. I… I don’t think I properly killed her.”

“… Wha… Okay, okay… Eric, tell me from the beginning.”

“But you already know. You knew what I was going to do. It was the vampire girl. I bought the stake just like you said to and I stabbed the girl through the chest. I was going to burn the body – I had the bag and everything – But I was caught. Please Frank – Come into town.”

“… Eric, where are you? You have to understand – I thought we were having a bit of banter like we always do. I thought you were joking with me. You’ve never taken what I’ve said seriously before… I don’t actually believe in vampires, I just like to think they’re real, you know what I mean?”

“… But…”

“Where are you, mate? Let us help.”

From there I let the receiver slip through my fingers and drop like a bungee jump. I was crumbling. Was there nobody? Was there truly nobody I could trust now? Nobody in the world? It was true… It must be true: I’ve gone mad. I’m mad.

woah woah, hold your horses little vampire. *rips her off and stands up, rubbing her cheek lightly* Wouldnt want to make rose's birthday horrible, now do you?

"Nowhere in specific. I've just been wondering a lot, really." Wondering may have been a bit of an understatement. "Went to Florida for a while, and the Caribbean a bit. A lot of Europe... It was fun actually. I met a lot of great people along the way and stuff. Then I settled down in France for a while." That basically covered where she'd been and since they were talking about what they'd been doing it was a great opportunity for her to get to see if what she'd heard was true. "What about you? What've you been up to?" Hopefully she would get the answer she was looking for.

I was thinking we could skip to the next day anyway... I think someone might be waking

"Well, not much, compared to your awesome world-wide travels." I replied with a shrug. "I've just been hanging out with Jeremy and the twins sometimes and helping Jer out with... Stuff... And I've got a girlfriend now - I know, it's a big surprise - so yeah, I've been hanging out with her a lot." Smiling slightly, I decided not to go into detail about Sammi because it'd take forever to talk about her and how great she was. Instead, I just replied with a, "You've missed a lot of crazy s*** though, and I mean a lot!"
