"Yes, yes, I know to wash the dishes and stuff, I'm not a fool." I pointed out as James exited via the window. I locked the window behind him, quickly rinsed out one glass and put it back in the cabinet without even bothering to dry it - I'd do it once Arkand was gone - then rushed to the couch and fixed it as fast as I could. There was another knock at the door. "Coming!" Brushing my fingers through my hair as I walked to the door, I tried to compose my features. I knew that if I looked happy, it would come off as suspicious, so instead I put on the perfect act of scared, but not entirely too shaken up, peeping through the door first as if to check that it wasn't a Vampire - Strigoi or Moroi - who had managed to enter the building before the sun raised it's head. Upon seeing Arkand, I quickly unlocked the door and let him in. "Good morning, sir." I greeted him with wary eyes, peering outside the apartment for a moment before closing the door and locking it again. 'Maria, I'm glad to see that you're still alive. We got concerned when you hung up last night.' His voice might've been neutral, but I could see just a hint of genuine concern in his eyes. Then he seemed to notice my PJs. 'Did I wake you up?' "To be honest, sir, it doesn't matter whether or not you woke me up because I barely slept last night." I answered with a shudder, folding my arms across my chest anxiously. Arkand gave a knowing nod - we all had the same fear of coming face to face with Strigoi, it was the most terrifying nightmare we could experience - and gestured to the couch. 'Lets sit down and talk about it.' Even if the words themselves could be seen as comforting, I knew from the tone of his voice and his posture that comfort was far from his mind, this talk would be all business.

Arkand debriefed me on what had been done about the situation for the first ten minutes. I made sure to play with my hands, biting my lip and shift anxiously at the mention of the two Strigoi that attacked me, showing relief when he mentioned that the guardians had taken them down. Honestly, that part of the act wasn't entirely made up. The next part, however, when Arkand asked me to explain things from my perspective, was almost entirely made up. On the plus side, Alchemists were great lliars, and I just so happened to be one of the best. "Mr Redheart had texted me to explain that he was going out drinking so, as my assignment requires, I followed him into the club and kept an eye on him from afar." I explained, trying to maintain a professional image with my clasped hands and straight back, though still keeping the fear in my eyes. "The male Strigoi apparoached me and, at first I didn't realize that he was a Strigoi - the lights made it hard to tell - but then I saw his fangs-" My eyes widened slightly at the 'Memory'. "And I tried to escape through the crowd. That's when I was confronted by the female Strigoi, but someone must've seen that the woman was about to attack me and leapt out in front of me." My hands started to shake and it wasn't faked. Just remembering that man lying on the ground, blood pouring from his neck. Arkand confirmed in the debrief that the man had passed away and I had to blink back real eyes for a moment before continuing the half-true story. "His actions created a distraction so I left and called you as I ran to my car. There I was confronted by the male again, which was why I hung up. I- I thought I was going to die, sir. I probably would've if it wasn't for my pepper spray." I probably would've if it wasn't for James, I thought silently. "The pepper spray delayed the Strigoi enough to allow me to get to my car. I droved back here, locked the door and-" 'And had a drink?' Arkand nodded over towards the empty wine bottle. I ran a shaking hand through my hair. "Maybe several, but could you blame me?" 'No, of course not. Perhaps it was a little reckless, but after having to deal with them, I could understand.'

I thought that Arkand would've left it there, but after a pause, he spoke up again. 'And what of Mr Redheart? What happened to him?' Time to really test my lying abilities. I grimaced slightly upon hearing the Moroi's name, then shrugged ever so slightly. "I have no idea." I explained, my tone mixed with repulsion. "I lost him in the club and, to be honest, I'm glad I did. Even if I kept a distance, I still didn't like being around him, especially since he was getting drunk and could've ended up biting me in his drunken state." I faked shudder, then shook my head as if to shake away the horrifying thought. "I apologize for losing sight of him, Sir. I know my assignment was to keep an eye on him and I know he may have gone to another club, gotten intoxicated and spilled more secrets to the humans, but I value my life over their kind." The words came out tinged with disgust, but anyone who saw me smack into a Strigoi with my car just to save James probably knew differently. 'As you should.' Arkand responded. 'Those unholy beings should never take priority over your own life. Lets just hope that Mr Redheart decided to go home instead of doing something we'd all regret.'

Arkand left soon after, leaving me alone. I breathed a sigh of relief and flopped back onto my couch. My orders remained the same, although Arkand was going to make sure that some guardians did a sweep of the town as soon as the sun went down and before I went out again. He was also going to make sure to order a gun for me so that I could better protect myself. To be honest, my mind wasn't focused on protection right now. I was pretty sure that Arkand believed my lies, but there was a shred of doubt in my mind, a shred of worry that he'd discover that James was with me last night. If I was even suspected of being too close to him, the consequences would be terrible, I could tell. For now all I could do was hope and pray.

After a moment or two of relaxing, I walked back over to the kitchen window and opened it. In an instant I with hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. I looked around outside, raising an eyebrow as I noticed James on the platform above me. Knowing Arkand would be long gone by now, I wasn't afraid to speak out to the Moroi. "I thought you would've been gone by now." I commented, curious as to why he stuck around. Was he really that nosey? Was he just curious as to the work of the Alchemists? Another theory crossed my mind and I smirked slightly. "This isn't a Bed And Breakfast, y'know." I teased, "If you want some food, you're going to have to look somewhere else."

James was sitting on the step by now, smoking happily. But he soon finished it, chuckling softly at the lies she was saying "Such a liar, Holt." he grinned, listening to the conversation go on. He found this pretty interesting. The lies she was able to feed right to her boss. Even James knew all of this was a lie. Even if she did kinda made him seem like a selfish man. Things continued on and soon enough, it was quiet and he began to wonder why it was so silent. Did something happen? No. James would have heard something.

But thats when the window opened and caused him to look down, making him stand and go downstairs to her window, leaning on the railing when he got there "As if i'd leave just because your boss." he then laughed when she said it wasnt a Bed and Brakfast "I know that, Holt. I'm not even hungry right now so dont worry about me eating all the stuff in your house. I could cook up something if you're being lazy." he informed her. "Are you going to let me in though, or are you going to lock me out here to sit here in boredom?" he grinned

I stepped out of the way to allow James in, but I felt a little uneasy about the thought of him making my food. Sure I trusted him a little more after last night's heroics, but I still had limits and letting a Vampire cook me something was one of them. "I'll make my own breakfast." I answered, covering my mouth as I let out a yawn - roughly 6 hours of sleep in two nights was really detrimental. "I'll make some coffee too, if you really do intend on being a pain in the rear and sticking around." I had meant that light-heartedly, but as I started gathering up the ingredients for bacon and cinnamon pancakes, I couldn't help but wonder why James hadn't left yet. If he wasn't even hungry, just what exactly was his purpose for spending time with any Alchemist in her apartment? I'd have to ask at some point, but for now I was too tired to focus on making pancakes and gathering information at the same time. "Help yourself to the tv," I told James as I started making the batter for the pancakes. "I can't garuntee much will be on at 8:30-ish, but I'm sure you can find something." I watched as James went to do so, then focused on the task at hand.

About half an hour later, I had managed to make a large stack of pancakes and two cups of coffee, one with no milk and two sugar - yet another 'super energy' coffee for me - and one with cream and one sugar. I was still in my PJs with nothing underneath, but I honestly couldn't care less when I was this tired, even if I did have a guest. Balancing the food and drinks in my hands, I joined James on the couch, keeping a respectable distance between us, but not sitting on the other end of the couch as a more uptight Alchemist would. I handed my guest his coffee and took a sip of my own before I set it down on the coffee table and started digging into my bacon pancakes. After a couple mouthfuls, with nothing else on my mind, I decided to speak up about my earlier thoughts. "So why exactly are you still here, James?" I asked, casting my glance to him with a raised eyebrow. "I can't think that Alchemist duties are so important to you that you stuck around to listen to them, and besides, that conversation ended half an hour ago, so why haven't you gone back to the mansion?" Was he still here because he wanted to spend time with me? Was that even acceptable? No. Not by Alchemist standards. The Alchemists kept things strictly professional with the Moroi; there was no spending personal time with them. Did that mean I was supposed to kick James out? He wasn't exactly doing harm, but still...

Ugh, the pros and cons of Flooding therapy >.< I feel like it's straight forward - how ethical can forcing an arachnophobe to hold a tarantula be? - but I have very little evidence for things. I know it's quick, but I don't know how to back that point up DX Ugh, I'll think of something.

James climbed inside when she had let him in and he slipped his hands into his pockets, listening as she said she'd make her own breakfast. He shrugged "Alright, you're missing out on a good breakfast." he walked into the livingroom and sat down on the couch, loving how comfortable it was. His hearing picked up sounds from the kitchen and the cooking that was going on. Followed by the scent that filled his nose, causing him to smile a bit.

Holt then sat with him, handing him a coffee. Taking it, he looked inside and then took a sip before leaning over and putting the drink on the coffee table as soon as a question popped up for him to answer "Well, I have nothing to do really. Becides, I like talking with you and chilling out." just hanging out really, getting to know her more without her actually realizing it "If you really dont want me here I can always leave. I wouldnt want to make you uncomfortable in your own home."

He had the respect. If she wanted him out, he'd leave and go back home and probably go to sleep or just find something to do in the mansion. Maybe watch movies or go to the game room or lounge. There really wasnt anything to do in the mansion without having some friends with you. Holt, was one of those friends. One that he actually had a liking to.

I thought about it for a moment, debating the pros and cons. Yes, I had friends beside James, but they would all be working today so I wouldn't have any company. My parents were probably busy with their duties as well, no other Alchemists would show up today - in theory - and James was entirely despicable, so he'd be good company. There seemed to be a lot more pros than cons, so I eventually gave in. "Fine, you can stay here, but I might take a nap later so you'll be on your own for a few hours." Swallowing another bite of pancake, I added, "And please refrain from going clubbing tonight. Not only because of what happened last night but also because I think I'm really going to have to catch up on my sleep.

I continued eating and drinking in comfortable silence for a while afterwards, glancing to the screen every now and then as we watched some show about home improvements. I eventually got bored of that, though, I decided to set up Lie To Me Season 1 on my DVD player before sitting back down, because if we were going to have something playing in the background, it had to at least be entertaining! Once I sat down again, I drank some more coffee, then continued eating. "So, James," I spoke up, attempting to start a conversation as my gaze flickered between him and the screen. "What do you like to do for fun? Y'know, besides partying?" It seemed like a terrible conversation starter to me, but I wasn't exactly good at socialising, especially with a Moroi! James had already proven himself to be better at getting conversations rolling, so I was kind of relying on him to help me out right now.

I nodded "That is fine by me if you take a nap." naps were a beautiful thing "I'll just clean up things or something. I'll find something to entertain me." Maybe i'd just pull her into a Spirit dream...I dont know if she'd like it but i'll surely try. But then again maybe I shouldnt since she gets cringy with magical things. "Dont worry about me sneaking in your room to take a nibble at your neck. Because thats something I wont do. I'm a man of my word. Unless I have no choice but to go against it. Which I wont." I wanted to make sure she was assured just so she didnt barricade her room.

Holt went and changed the TV to a DVD. It was obvious what she put on was something she liked because she was so quick on picking. "I like to paint. Painting is what I do most. Other then cooking like a chef and partying like an animal in clubs." Painting was something to do when I was in the mood and cooking..well..Learning from my mother was the best because she always told me I had to cook for a wife one day. She told me that not always a woman has to cook just because she's a woman.

"I'm not a very fun person. But sometimes I can be. Going to parks, traveling to various places..But since i'm short on cash, I cant do things as much as I used to." they were so much fun. And honestly, I just wish I had a girlfriend and spoil her like a princess. Make her feel special. But sadly, that dream has to be put on hold until I get my money back from my parents since they cut me short on Cash. Maybe I should just save up at this point.

At the mention of nibbling on my neck, I couldn't help but shudder, but it wasn't the kind of shudder that was expected. If James had used the word 'Bite', I would've looked at him in horror and scooted away a little, but to nibble on someone's neck... In the human world, that was such a sexual thing to do. I was shocked that my mind had jumped to that immediate conclusion, but I couldn't help but admit to myself that, if I had a human boyfriend, maybe I'd like that kind of thing. As soon as the image of James 'Nibbling' on my neck entered my brain, however, with his sharp fangs piercing into my flesh accidentally or otherwise, I could practically feel myself pale, shifting myself at an angle so that my neck was just a little bit further away from him. "Instead of cleaning my apartment, you should go out and find a feeder." I suggested, not too pleased with the thought of him biting someone else, either, but maybe if he had his fill with someone else, there'd be less chance of him seeing me as a tasty snack. "It might be a better use of your time."

I was thankful when James answered my question, glad for the change of subject. As he talked I finished of the pancakes and the coffee, feeling a little more awake now than when I first woke up. "Oh, so you're an artist, huh?" I asked, my fear fading a little and being replaced with a small smile. It was pretty clear that James was more creative, whereas I was more academic, although that didn't mean I disliked art. In fact, I found some art rather fascinating. "I'd like to see your artwork, one day. If you can bring them here, that is." Because there was no way I'd ever step foot in the Immortal mansion, even if I did want to see his art. "And James, you don't need money to be fun and do fun things. On the contrary, I think you're a fun guy when you're just talking; some of the things you say are quite entertaining." Yes, I did just compliment a Moroi, no, I didn't think that was punishable - at least, I hoped not - just strange. Yes, I thought that James was probably gonna get a big head and tease me for complimenting, but no, I didn't particularly care. Why? Because, despite the fact that I couldn't allow myself to fall for him, I did kind of like his smile. Not as much as his gorgeous hazel eyes, of course, but it was a close second.
((*Starts playing Kiss The Girl again.* I know there has to be a right place and a right time, but ugh, these two X3))

I grinned resting my head on my fist as my arm rested on the arm rest. My eyes studying her as she spoke. Something about her voice always brought me..I dont even know. A different place. As if it was an angel singing to me. Her voice was calm and fluent. No 'um's or 'uh's. "I am a artist indeed." it was nice to share some things with her such as this. What shocked me most is when she actually would like to see my Artwork "I could try to bring the smaller ones. Nothing too big to carry around. If you ever want a self portrait, let me know." yes, I could be that good.

As if this couldnt get any better, she actually Complimented me! "Ah, A compliment from the one and only Maria Holt. A round of applause everyone." I laughed, teasing her "I think this is the first time you could have actually complimented me without saying that i'm a 'evil creature of the night'" Holt was only making my life so much easier. She should have known by now that saying things like this only got me going on with my teasing and smart little quips.

"A portrait requires a lot of staying still," I pointed out with a grimace. "I'd rather just give you a picture to paint instead of sitting around while you paint me. I know it's not as good, but I'm not very good at staying still. But sure, you can bring some of the smaller paintings around, that'd be great." James then proceeded to tease me - yup, I knew that would happen - and I gave him a mock glare, the smile never leaving my lips. "Hey, compliments aren't that uncommon from me, they're just rare for creatures of the night." I threw back, leaving out the evil part due to my revelation that James wasn't evil at all, besides the drinking blood thing, which was considered a sin to the Alchemists. "I'll make sure not to give you anymore, though, now that you've teased me about it." I stuck out my tongue a little, enjoying this little back-and-forth between James and I. My friends didn't usually tease each other, and the Alchemists were too serious to really tease anyone, so it was just nice to mess around like this and not have to really care about insulting each other because we were so laid back about it. I grinned at that thought, then decided to get up and wash my dishes. Before I went to the kitchen with my stuff, though, I nodded in the direction of James' cup, asking, "Are you done with that yet?"

I rolled my eyes "You could lay down and nap and I could paint you. Its not that hard to do when you're sleeping. Unless you're a very moveable sleeper." I leaned over to the coffee table and picked up the mug that was sitting there, taking another sip of coffee "Aww noo, dont do that to me now, Holt. I was beginning to love your compliments." Losing her compliments was something I never wanted, thats for sure. It was always a way for me to tease her and make both myself and her laugh.

I remembered something "Hey! You didnt call me a 'evil creature of the night'! What made you drop the 'evil', Holt?" I raised my eyebrow and watched her with a smirk on my face, watching as she cleaned up her items before walking to the kitchen. When she had asked about my coffee I shook my head "No i'm not. Not done yet." I watched as she disappeared into the kitchen and a smile played on my lips "You know, Holt. You are one special woman." She wasnt even a girl. She was a woman who was smart and intelligent.

"You're smart." I got up from the couch "You're Intelligent." I started making my way to the kitchen "You're very mysterious." Leaning on the doorframe of the kitchen, I smiled "You're one of a kind." sometimes flattery could get you everywhere. But this, I wasnt only working with flattery, but I was telling her what I had thought in my heart.
